2025-26 Smart Start Week 25

This week, our learning was inspired by the letter W, and what a wonderful week it was!

We began by exploring building and design, using wooden logs and blocks to create cabins and imaginative structures. The children worked collaboratively, sharing ideas and problem-solving as they brought their creations to life.

Dramatic play was full of purpose and care. In our vet center, friends took on the role of veterinarians, nurturing and caring for wild animals. Others worked in the “get well center,” thoughtfully tending to patients and making sure everyone felt better. These moments continue to show us how children process empathy and the world around them.

We were also excited to welcome a special visitor this week! Mr. Jake joined us to create and learn alongside our class. He read the story The Book With No Pictures which quickly became a favorite. The children especially loved when he read the silly nonsense words, filling the room with laughter and joy.

With the changing season, we turned our attention to weather. We talked about what we notice as spring begins to emerge—warmer air, brighter sunshine, and new growth all around us. Outside, we embraced the beautiful weather and took time to observe the tulips we planted in the fall. Seeing their growth sparked excitement and meaningful conversations about change and patience.

In the classroom, we connected science and sensory play through hands-on exploration. As we learned about worms and their habitats, we worked together to make “dirt pudding,” making real-world connections in a fun and memorable way. We also experimented with oil and water, predicting and observing what would happen. While we discovered they do not mix, the addition of another ingredient created a swirling effect that reminded us of lava—an exciting moment of discovery!

We also took time to focus on our emotions. Through discussion and reflection, we practiced identifying feelings and understanding how to express them.

One of the most exciting moments of the week was witnessing change firsthand—our butterflies began to emerge from their chrysalises! The room filled with wonder and curiosity as we observed this transformation. Inspired by this, we began creating our own wings, allowing imagination and creativity to take flight.

It has been a week full of wonder, growth, and meaningful connections—truly a wonderful way to explore the letter W.
