Smart Start Week 6: Apple of My Eye
Week 6 at Smart Start was all about apples and the letter E!
Trees are simply amazing. We have been having the best time learning about trees, their leaves, bark, roots, and this week... FRUIT! We asked our super-smart students what they knew about trees and asked them to guess what was hiding in the center of an apple. We conducted taste experiments and decided which tastes best: green, yellow, or red apples. (Red delicious apples won by quite a margin. 🍎)
This week's play dough was filled with cinnamon and nutmeg making our playtimes a delicious and aromatic experience. We rolled out pie crusts and pretended to bake all kinds of apple-flavored goodies. After creating our play dough pies, we did a taste experiment with REAL crispy, crusty, buttery apple pie. Yum!
Our books for the week were Elmer and Elmer and the Lost Teddy by David McKee. Elmer is a lovable elephant with unique, patchwork skin who is full of laughs and jokes, but more importantly, kindness. We created our own one-of-a-kind elephants and used tissue paper bleeding to create a giant Elmer for our classroom.
Painting blue skies and apple trees!
