2022/2023: Week 15

Welcome, 2023!

This week, we welcomed the new year with joy and anticipation. There were so many stories to tell and exciting happenings to recount as we jumped into January and a new semester of learning. This week's focus was the letter J and our exploration took us to Japan! We enjoyed learning about Japanese culture through play, music, art, dance, and stories. This was the first of many cultural studies we will enjoy throughout the second semester. We love learning about our big, beautiful world and the people in it!

A new year had us thinking about calendars, months, days, and years and how we measure time. We created calendars that our students can take home to use with their families.

This week our cultural study had us thinking about things that are the same and things that are different in Japan. We connected those concepts to our scientific exploration and asked "What's the Difference" between jam & jelly and fresh squeezed orange juice and store-bought orange juice? Students used their five senses to observe, document, and make predictions.

This week was truly sublime. Our students returned to the classroom eager to connect with their friends and teachers and ready to learn. As we enter 2023, we are so thankful for this place, these children, and the joy we find each day in learning along with them.
